Balcas Takes a Step Towards a Cleaner Future

Balcas, a leading producer of renewable energy and supplier of sawn timber, announced their commitment to replace their fleet of thirty diesel company cars with Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicles. Balcas, like many other companies, is taking initiative to reduce their carbon footprint and cut down their emissions.

The company has set a goal to progressively reduce their carbon emissions, which currently stands at 150 metric tonnes of CO2 per year as stated in the company press release. By replacing the current diesel cars with Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicles, Balcas aims to significantly decrease their carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.

The company has started this initiative by replacing three vehicles from its fleet on lease terms with Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicles in the summer of 2018. The vehicles will be powered by green energy from the company's own biomass operations, which will result in zero emissions.

The move towards Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicles is not only beneficial to the environment; it also saves the company money. According to the International Council on Clean Transportation, owning an electric vehicle is cheaper than owning a gasoline or diesel vehicle in most countries. The high fuel efficiency of Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicles means lesser fuel cost and lower maintenance cost. Furthermore, Balcas employees will be able to charge the company's vehicles at work, at home and at public rapid charging points, making the charging process convenient and hassle-free.

According to the company spokesperson, the transition to Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicles is just the beginning of a larger plan to reduce emissions. The spokesperson stated, "Our company takes its corporate social responsibility very seriously, and we see reducing our carbon emissions as one of the most important ways we can contribute to a clean and healthy world. We are committed to doing our part in reducing emissions and working together with our employees, suppliers and customers to achieve this goal."

Balcas is not alone in their commitment to reducing carbon emissions. According to a recent report from the International Energy Agency, the number of electric vehicles on the road had risen to 3.1 million by the end of 2017, up from only 17,000 in 2010. Consequently, more and more companies are joining the electric vehicle revolution and making a positive impact on the environment.
